It’s the thing we most want to get right. If someone leaves on a Thursday feeling more welcome than when they walked in, we’ve done the important part of the job.
About the collective
West Fife Camera Collective is a photography club in Dunfermline, started in 2025 by a few people who wanted somewhere to take pictures together without the formality. We meet every Thursday, all year round, and everyone is welcome.
Why we started
We started the collective in 2025 because we’d been to camera clubs that felt stuffy. Formal, a little stiff, organised around competition and a pecking order that took years to climb. That’s a perfectly good way to run a club — it just wasn’t the one we wanted to be in.
So we made a friendlier one. No entry test, no jargon thrown about to make anyone feel small, and no sense that you have to earn the right to be there. If you have a camera, or just a phone and an interest, you’re already qualified.
Being new helps with that. There are no forty-year-old habits here and no established order to break into. The club is still taking shape, and the people who come along on a Thursday are the ones shaping it.
What we stand for
How the club is run
We keep the formality to the minimum we can get away with, but a club still needs running properly. There’s an elected committee, and a constitution that any member is welcome to read.
We’re also affiliated to the Scottish Photographic Federation, which connects us to clubs right across the country and to competitions and events well beyond West Fife.

Where and when do you meet?
Every Thursday from 7pm to 9pm at Abbeyview Community Hub in Dunfermline, all year round. Directions and venue details.
What does it cost to come along?
Your first few visits are free. After that, membership is £30 for the year. More about joining.
Do I need to be any good?
No, and there’s nothing to pass. Our members range from people who have never come off auto to others who have been shooting for decades. See what a typical programme looks like.
